As part of the dynamic duo The Johner Brothers, Brad Johner has
been one of Canada’s premiere country artists, entertainers and
songwriters. Now as a solo artist, Brad is spring-boarding off the success
of his past to launch his much anticipated solo career, with his debut
album to be released September 3, 2002.
After twelve years and a shelf full of trophies, The Johner Brothers
decided to bring their music career to an end while at the peak of
their game, officially disbanding in December 2001. During the 1990s they
enjoyed non-stop success on the Canadian Country Hit charts; releasing
four albums which yielded over two dozen singles to radio; many of them
capturing Top 20 status, easily the best showing for any “brother” act
during the most prolific decade in the history of Canadian country music.
Brad’s impressive string of hit songs validated his unique song writing
talents and established him as one of Canada’s elite songwriters.
Their success led to numerous nominations and awards for Brad and The
Johner Brothers in their home province as well as at the national level:
garnering several Juno Nominations, over two dozen SCMAs wins, including
“Entertainers of the Decade”, and several CCMA nominations, and
winning CCMA Duo of the Year win in 1991 and Independent Artist Duo of the
Year in 2000.
“Overnight success” is an unbefitting description of Brad. He grew
up playing music in his family band in southern Saskatchewan, Canada in
the 1980’s. In 1988, Brad and his brother Ken decided to launch out on
their own. Backed by one of the most talented bands in Canada, “The
Johner Brothers” toured non-stop - Canada, Nashville, the Netherlands,
Japan, the Caribbean, and Bosnia - headlining festivals, concerts and
corporate events. Endearing listeners and wowing audiences established
Brad Johner as a consummate entertainer, and “The Johner Brothers” as
one of Canada’s premiere country music acts.
“Brad is a Renaissance musician, a rare commodity these days,” says
Louis O’Reilly of O’Reilly International Entertainment Management.
“He writes his own songs, records, co-produces, and plays on his own
albums. And he’s a superb entertainer as well.”
Brad has always focused his attention on his songs. His numerous hits
as a songwriter speak for themselves. “I think a lot of different things
influence the sound of my music,” says Brad. “I grew up around country
music, listening to Merle Haggard and Don Williams and today listen to
Vince Gill and Steve Wariner.”
Perhaps the biggest influence on Brad’s music has been his family.
Brad’s life is currently divided between his time in the studio and on
the road, and his time with his family - wife Rhea and children Lucas (7),
Jesse (6), Quinn (4), and new baby Matthew. Although the music industry is
time consuming, Brad keeps his priorities straight and his attention on
his family.
Brad’s solo career has been announced to the media and public, and
their response has been enthusiastic. The anticipation and interest in
Brad’s solo release has been high. The expectation of something
exciting, new, and fresh has been the impetus for Brad’s writing, song
selection, and production. Come September, these expectations will be
surely met and surpassed.
