Dave Gunning is fast becoming the buzz in the world of folk singer-songwriters. This year he has performed in Europe, Canada and the United States, creating a stir, touching hearts, and gaining supporters wherever he played his songs. In the past year alone he has performed at Tonder Festival in Denmark, showcased to an unheard-of standing ovation at the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance in Texas, more than held his own on stage with Kim Mitchell at the 2003 East Coast Music Awards Songwriter’s Circle, and earned an invitation to perform at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas in May 2004.

Having gained a reputation as one of the most respected musicians on the East Coast, he has toured across the country with Stompin’ Tom Connors, and in addition to gracing the stages at many other reputable festivals, was a featured performer at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in 2002. In addition to hosting the Nova Scotia Kitchen party, Gunning was selected to be part of the prestigious “Singing Stan” main stage concert. Appearing with musical luminaries such as John Gracie, the Irish Descendants, Lennie Gallant and Ariel Rogers and family, Gunning’s version of “Field Behind the Plow” visibly moved the thousands of people gathered for the Stan Rogers tribute.

A factor in Gunning’s increased profile within the East Coast Music Industry has been the exposure gained from his video “Here She Comes a Running” which enjoyed considerable success on CMT’s Celtic Country program. Gunning’s second recording “Caught Between Shadows” contains a blending of sensitive folk lyrics and powerful pop arrangements that creates a sound that is uniquely his own.

Dave is a two time ECMA nominee, receiving his nominations in the Roots/Traditional category for both “Caught Between Shadows” and “Lost Tracks”, his debut recording which was released to critical acclaim in 1996. Both recordings showcase Gunning’s talents as a songwriter and innovative arranger of traditional songs.

In 2003, Dave was named MIANS (Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia) Musician of the Year. In 2002, he won all 3 categories in which he was nominated as he was named Engineer of the Year, and Producer of the Year. Riverfront Studios, of which he is co-owner and founder, was awarded Recording Studio of the Year.

Dave released what proved to be a very popular “Live” CD in Fall, 2002, and has just released his 4th album "two-bit world"
